Intimate immensity
17.03.2018 — 01.04.2018, Triumph Gallery

Triumph Gallery is happy to announce the «Intimate immensity» project- a first personal exhibition by Yun Kyung Jeong, a recent participant of the Extension.KR group showcase. She was born in Hong Kong and later received her degrees in London at UCL Slade School of Fine Art and Goldsmiths University. Jeong is a prominent figure on the global art scene- her works were shown at London Art Fair and KIAF/ ART SEOUL in 2010, as well as at Art Basel Hong Kong in 2017. Very fine, monochrome paintings by Yun Kyung Jeong, filled with myriads of details, reflect artist’s thoughts on interpenetration and interactions of the Eastern and Western cultures. Artist primarily works with the complex coexistence of various elements and she surely does apply Eastern philosophy in a right way, as this school of thought usually researches not the objects but the interconnection between them. Project’s title, ‘’Intimate immensity’’, refers to a famous French philosophical work entitled ‘’The poetics of the space’’ by Gaston Bachelard, a detailed research on the notion of ‘’space’’, specifically of the role of ‘’space’’ in the creative process of writers and artists. Diverse forms, composed from geometrically correct architectural elements and biomorphic massifs, transform Jeong’s works into these metaphorical ‘’spaces’’- phantasmagoric surroundings with their own laws and full of inner balance. As Yun Kyung Jeong pointed out herself, ‘’The worlds, that I create, provide me with a sense of comfort- I am at the right place at the right time. It is impossible to copy these worlds in the real one, they exist solely somewhere in dreams and memories . I fully belong to the moment when I create, to the moment between an in-breath and out-breath. The painting process reminds me of a meditation or of Buddhist throat singing- there is a structure and a rhythm that crystallize through me. ‘’
